"I feel Magdalena is one of the top artist educators in the country...her classrooms are places of healing and rejuvenation. I look forward to collaborating with her much more in the future."
Kurt Wootton, Director, Arts Literacy Project, Brown University

MAGDALENA GÓMEZ - ARTS EDUCATOR

In the mid 80's Magdalena channelled her creative energy into working with youth and championing the talents of a new generation of writers and performers. Magdalena began her teaching career working with pre-schoolers at a YWCA in NYC. On her first day as a teacher, she reached a child others had dismissed as hopeless. “By the end of our session this sweet little boy and I were rolling on the floor laughing. All it took was a jar of soap bubbles, a little role playing and a sense of humor. He needed to be seen and respected right where he was without forced expectations. It was that simple.”

Magdalena has been working with children, youth and adults ever since. She is currently on the faculty of SmART Schools, based in the Education Development Center in Newton, MA. The focus is training public educators for the implementation of whole school arts integration programs. She is also on the faculty of the Women of Color Leadership Network (at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst) and a consultant for the Brown University Arts Literacy Project.

Magdalena is available for theater, poetry and creative writing workshops for schools, agencies, companies and organizations. Her theater workshops focus on the development of individual and collective creative processes. These workshops are team-building, defeat fatigue, banish burn-out and bond colleagues into new ways of envisioning their work and collaborations.

"We are always thrilled to have her (Magdalena) join our programs because she produces results, which for us means she is able to inspire students and can get them to exceed their own expectations of themselves."
